We changed their luck!

Due to an overabundance of black cats in 2007, and the fact that they are the most difficult to adopt out, the Suncoast Animal League held "Black Cat Adopt-a-Thon Weekend" beginning on Friday, July13th, 2007 and lasting three days. The event, a spoof on superstitions of the past, was held at PetSmart in the Countryside area, and was considered a tremendous success on many levels. Twenty-three black cats found new homes that weekend, while awareness of the plight of black cats was spread through the animal community.

Suncoast Animal League pet photo Among those adopted during the Suncoast Animal League’s “Black Cat Adopt-a-Thon Weekend” was “Jag”, a shelter favorite who had been with us nearly six months after being rescued from a local animal hoarder. His bold, brave and easy-going personality led his new owner to try something new. Within 48 hours of his adoption, “Jag” learned to walk outside wearing a cat harness. He now often accompanies his new mom when she leaves the house, even going to work with her. What a cool cat!

Suncoast Animal League pet photo Perhaps our greatest adoption of the weekend was “Raven”, whose intake number was C0007 and had been with us since our Grand Opening on December 2, 2006. A little shy with strangers, she always blended into the background when potential adopters visited the shelter. She now lives in a comfortable house with a wonderful family who loves her and a doggie best friend she sleeps with.

Suncoast Animal League t-shirt Our “Change Their Luck, Adopt a Black Cat” t-shirt was developed especially for the Suncoast Animal League’s “Black Cat Adopt-a-Thon Weekend”. If you have a black cat at home or would just like to support the Suncoast Animal League’s campaign to find black cats good homes, please visit the “Critter Corner Shoppe” at the Suncoast Animal League or click here to purchase your t-shirt online. How much? What else…$13.
