Help Them Heal

Many of the animals that arrive at The Suncoast Animal League are in need of immediate medical attention or require medical treatment and medication. Funds are always tight, and the need is always great. Your donation to the Help Them Heal program will be used to help support pet medical expenses. Below are some of the profiles of animals in our Help Them Heal program. With your support, we really can Help Them Heal.

After surgery

China

China is a beautiful and sweet, 30lb., 11-month-old Sheltie-mix. Her journey began at a rural Georgia shelter and ended in Palm Harbor, Florida in June 2008. Upon her arrival, it was discovered that she had a badly broken, right rear leg that had already set in an unusual position. After x-rays were taken, two veterinarians agreed that her leg must be amputated. A full recovery is expected, as dogs do quite well on three legs. Her surgery bill will be approximately $400. Any help for this little "China Doll" would be greatly appreciated.

Update July 3, 2008
During the final examination right before the surgery, the vet discovered that China's left back leg had also been previously broken and set, further proving this kind-hearted dog has had a very bad past. The vet's best guess is China had been hit by a car many months ago, but never taken to a vet to have her injuries tended to.

Bad as China's life has been, she is finally on the road to recovery and her luck is already changing. Her surgery was a success and she is currently in the process of healing from her extensive surgery. Immediately after her surgery, one of the vet techs opened her heart and home to China and is now fostering her during the recovery stage, which will take several weeks. Life is definitely getting better for her.

Please help us cover her full medical bill by donating now. Total cost for China's surgery: $720

Here's Mason after his grooming,
feeling much better

Mason

Mason is also from the same Georgia shelter. When he arrived, he was one huge black mat. After a close shave we discovered this little Pomeranian mix is very affectionate, with lots of personality and a boundless amount of energy. Unfortunately, we also discovered that Mason is positive with heartworms. His treatment will cost approximately $250 and we believe that it will be money well spent.

Barney

Barney completes the trio of Georgia dogs with health problems. This 15lb. unusual looking Corgi mix is loving, with a great personality to match. Barney has also tested positive with heartworms. Like his buddy Mason, he must also undergo the heartworm treatment. With a little loving care and quiet time, Barney should be as good as new. Treatment cost, approximately $250.
