Poncho
When our son Evan lost his cat and best friend over a year ago it broke our hearts. Not only had we all lost a special member of our family, but at the age of eleven, Evan learned for the first time about death. We mourned for our lost cat and while our other two cats brought us comfort, we missed having three.
A few months later we learned that our friend was involved with a new animal shelter, The Suncoast Animal League. We were so proud of her service to the community and wanted to support the shelter as much as we could. Evan made the first comment. Then we all kept making comments. Then we called The Suncoast Animal League to arrange for the adoption of our next family member.
We had a surprise waiting for us when we met the new litter of kittens from the shelter. All of the kittens were polydactyls! We were so excited to have a unique cat! The three of us sat in bliss for hours while the kittens roamed freely to mingle and get to know us. It was very relaxing for all of us and the kittens were at ease and playful. One kitten in particular stayed close to Evan and took to him immediately. He made his decision and the tiny black and white kitten with extra toes joined our family.
Evan named him Poncho and he has been a joy to our family every day. His youthful playing and frolicking with the other cats has been great to watch. It is amazing to watch him use his extra toes as he carries objects around. He is a warm and loving cat, always waiting for a lap to lie on.
Evan's favorite part is when Poncho will meow outside Evan's bedroom door until he is let in. Evan has found another friend.
