13 Chihuahuas rescued from filthy hoarder

Warning: The following photos were taken on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at a house where 13 Chihuahuas were confiscated due to animal neglect. The photos' content are graphic in nature, and are being presented in an effort to educate the public. Although our main concern is for welfare of the animals in this situation, we are also deeply concerned about the people involved.

Very little research has been conducted on this small segment of our society, and clearly more needs to be done. Animal welfare groups are often called out to these types of situations to remove neglected animals, and that is where our involvement usually ends. We do not have the expertise on this topic, nor do we have the resources available to help the families and individuals in distress. Our hope is that by making these photos public we will alert the community to the extent of this problem. It could be your next door neighbor. It could be your family member or friend.
