The Suncoast Animal League relies on the generosity of our wonderful volunteers. Their kindness and support enables us to continue or supplement nearly all that we do. From adoption counselors to volunteers who help on the front lines of events or behind the scenes on projects, big and small, we couldn’t do it without our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities

These are just some of the volunteer opportunities available at the Suncoast Animal League:

Kennel Cleaning

The shelter must be kept clean to ensure the health and comfort of the animals. This includes hosing down, disinfecting, squeegee and wiping down of all kennel surfaces and cages. Washing and drying of blankets and towels is also required.

Dog Walker

Volunteer dog walkers are responsible for taking our dogs out for some fresh air. Volunteers must be able to handle large, strong and stressed dogs.

Feline Care

Cat volunteers assist with cleaning individual cages which could include washing SOILED bedding if necessary, replenishing food, changing water and scooping litter boxes (changing if necessary). Sweep and mop floors, scrub litter boxes and wash dishes and dividers, do Laundry if necessary.

Front Desk Volunteer

Greet the public during hours of operation. Directing incoming phone calls to the appropriate departments.

Shelter Maintenance

Cleaning of floors, windows, and public areas.

Event Worker

Answer questions, distribute literature, and sell merchandise to visitors at various shelter events.

Fund Raiser

Work on various fund raising events throughout the year, help plan events, and serve on or chairing committees.

Foster Care

Care for young or special need animals in your home until they are ready for adoption. Prospective foster families must complete a foster parent orientation session.
